Modernising a UK Retailer's Rewards Platform: Frontend, Infrastructure, and Everything in Between

A UK retail programme covering Next.js migration, GCP infrastructure, membership-system changes, microfrontends and CI/CD modernisation.

Client not named. The membership-dependency work was still in progress when this programme record ended; no completion outcome is claimed.

Before

The work covered a product description page, an on-premise membership module, an external membership-data service and a Jenkins delivery pipeline.

Intervention

Next.js migration — Product Description Page

The team migrated the high-traffic product description page to Next.js and established the architectural direction for the wider frontend. Subsequent page changes remained with the programme team.

Membership module — on-premise to GCP

The membership module moved from on-site hardware to GCP. The migration covered networking, state management and service discovery. The module then ran on GCP with programme-level observability.

Removing the third-party membership dependency

An external service held the membership data model and drove physical card generation. Loyalty programme changes required vendor coordination. The programme began rebuilding the capability in-house and migrating its data and integrations. That work is ongoing.

Microfrontends — Rewards module

The programme divided the rewards frontend into independently deployable slices owned by separate teams.

Extending GCP to both card programmes + replacing Jenkins

A later phase extended the infrastructure work to both consumer brands' card programmes and replaced Jenkins with a self-service delivery pipeline. Automated gates supplied the release signals.

Limits

These measures describe this engagement, not a guarantee for another system.

Selected records include work delivered before Anystack Engineering was incorporated in May 2024. Each record states its provenance; these results are not evidence of the current three-person pod model.
